Working While on Benefits, Wednesday, October 9, 2024.  This is the third workshop, and it is led by David Edwards, the Certified Work Incentives Coordinator (CWIC) for the Center for Accessible Living (our independent living center in Louisville).  The objectives are:

1. Learn about the two main types of Social Security benefits for people with disabilities and work incentive tools available:
   1. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
      1. The effect of earned income on SSI payments
      2. Four SSI work incentives and how they can reduce countable earned income.
   2. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) (Title II disability benefits)
      1. The concept of “Substantial Gainful Activity” (SGA) and its impact on benefits.
      2. Factors that Social Security considers when determining SGA
   3. Work incentives that can ease the transition from dependence on benefits to greater independence from working.
2. Learn about Work Incentives Planning Assistance (WIPA) services and how CWIC’s assist you.
