Saving for the Future for People with Disabilities, Wednesday, September 11 (or Oct 30).  This will be led by elder law attorney, Amy Dougherty.  She has expertise in ABLE accounts (STABLE accts in KY) and special needs trusts.  The learning objectives for this workshop are:

1. Understand methods of saving that won’t jeopardize means-tested benefits such as SSI and Medicaid:
   1. Federal ABLE accounts.  What are “qualified disability expenses.” Introduction to the ABLE National Resource Center.
   2. Similar State savings accounts. In Kentucky, they are called STABLE accounts.
2. Understand the difference between ABLE accounts and Special Needs Trusts
   1. First-party special needs trusts
   2. Third-party (Pooled) special needs trusts.  Introduction to the Special Needs Alliance website.
